A Lasting Memory

It is the mission of Child Care Action Council (CCAC) to promote early learning communities where children and families thrive. An imperative part of making that mission possible is their annual Warm Hearts Soup Bowl Fundraiser, which was strongly supported by their VISTA member Jordan Marvin. A highlight of this event for the attendees is eating their lunch out of bowls that have been hand-painted by children in the community and taking the bowls home with them as a memoir of the work that CCAC does.

Jordan connected with preschools and child care centers in Thurston County who were willing to arrange bowl painting sessions. With class sizes averaging about fifteen students, she was able toimage-jmarvin3 get 200 bowls painted.  She also created a slideshow with pictures and quotes from the many children involved in this year’s event that will take attendees on the unique and heart-warming journey that each bowl has made.

Overall, the event was a success. There were 130 people in attendance, and funds from sponsors and individual donations totaled $17,096.
