Project Planning

Our Service Project Planning Toolkit is a list of brainstorming activities and questions to consider that will help you to develop a strong MLK Day of Service plan.

NationalService.gov is full of resources to help you plan, promote, and execute your MLK Day of Service project, including project ideas, logos and other MLK media, and volunteer recruitment tools.

Project Promotion

Forms and Resources

If you’d like help reaching out to media, please send the project-event information for media form to your WSC program coordinator at least two weeks in advance of the event.

Social Media

When posting on your own social media pages, don’t forget these tags!

  • MLKday
  • AmeriCorps
  • WAServiceCorps

We can help you get the word out! Send a direct message to our facebook page with a link to your MLK project’s event page for us to share.

Inviting Your Local Legislator

Invite your city’s mayor, local legislators and supporters of national service to your event! If they confirm they’ll be attending, notify your local newspapers and major news outlets.
Use the opportunity to highlight your service in AmeriCorps, and the impact you’re making through Washington Service Corps and the organization you’re serving with.
